BEHIND ENEMY LINES
Toronto FC’s 2025 Major League Soccer campaign continues with the first of two regular season meetings with New York Red Bulls on Saturday evening. Following their first three away MLS games in 2025, the Reds hold a 54W-167L-73T all-time record (235 points) in MLS regular season matches played on the road.

AN ODE TO THE PAST
Toronto FC visit New York Red Bulls, one of only ten original MLS teams in 1996, for the 43rd encounter in the all-time series between the two clubs. Historically, TFC hold a 9W-23L-10T record through their first 42 regular season meetings with the Red Bulls. The two clubs have previously faced off in New Jersey on 21 separate occasions, with Red Bulls leading the series with a combined 17W-2L-2T record at Sports Illustrated Stadium (formerly Red Bull Arena) and Giants Stadium. Toronto FC will be looking for their first road victory against the New York Red Bulls, since goals from Sebastian Giovinco and Mark Delgado lifted the Reds to a 2-0 victory in their MLS regular season opener on March 6, 2016.
STEP BY STEP
After three road games to open the 2025 MLS season, Toronto FC returned to familiar surroundings to host Chicago Fire FC in their home opener on Saturday afternoon. The Reds made a quick start in their first game at BMO Field in five months’ time and took the lead when a swift team move resulted in Deandre Kerr heading home Federico Bernardeschi’s cross to make it 1-0 for the hosts. The 11th minute goal marked the TFC Academy product’s 17th goal for the club and his first of the 2025 season. Chicago Fire responded with a pair of first-half goals of their own, first through Andrew Gutman’s long-range strike in the 30thminute before Hugo Cuypers bundled home from close-range in the 44th minute. Despite a spirited second half, the Reds were unable to salvage a result as the Fire ultimately ran out 2-1 winners upon the full-time whistle.
MILESTONE WATCH
On Saturday, Spanish midfielder and former Toronto FC II captain Alonso Coello made his 50th Major League Soccer Season appearance for Toronto FC against Chicago Fire FC. A pair of Reds are one appearance away from recording a half-century of MLS appearances for the club. Goalkeeper Sean Johnson and defender Kobe Franklin have made 49 appearances for TFC since joining the First Team in January and February respectively of the 2023 MLS season and their next league appearance will each be their 50th MLS appearance for the Reds.

FOR CLUB AND COUNTRY
Three Reds have been called up for international duty during the March FIFA International Window. Club captain Jonathan Osorio is one of 23 players named to represent Canada in the 2025 Concacaf Nations League Finals at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California. Osorio and the Canadian Men’s National Team will battle Mexico in the tournament semi-final on Thursday, March 20 (10:30 p.m. ET), before facing either USA or Panama in the Concacaf Nations League Final or Third Place Match on Sunday, March 23. Toronto FC’s Derrick Etienne Jr. previously spent five seasons with the New York Red Bulls.
