Toronto FC Academy is set to host the TFC x First Touch Football (FTF) All Star Showcase over Family Day weekend starting Friday, February 14 to Sunday, February 16 at BMO Training Ground. This is the second time TFC has hosted the FTF All Star Showcase inviting nearly 100 University and College coaches to the event, providing each athlete the chance to compete in front of some of North America’s leading collegiate programs.
Eight teams are slated to compete in the three-day showcase including TFC’s U-16 and U-18 teams, two FTF teams composed of players across Canada, FTF Montreal All Stars, North Toronto SC, Woodbridge SC and Vaughan SC. The format for the showcase includes a two-group draw and a guaranteed three matches for each team. The schedule for day three is based on the results from the first two days of competition.
“We are very excited to be hosting the TFC x FTF All-Star Showcase at BMO Training Ground,” says TFC Academy Director Anthony Capotosto. “An event like this can be a life-changing experience for a player, and we are very grateful to be partnering with FTF to make this happen. We have a responsibility in the Academy to provide pathways for all players in our program, and this event provides a unique stage for our Academy players to showcase their abilities. We are looking forward to bringing the Canadian soccer community together for some exciting games this weekend at our facility”.
TFC’s U-18 team has been drawn into Group A alongside FTF Team 1, FTF Montreal All-Stars and Vaughan SC. The U-18’s are led by Head Coach Dino Lopez and are scheduled to face Vaughan on Friday, February 14 at 2:30 p.m. before facing Montreal All-Stars the next day, Saturday, February 15 with a 2:30 p.m. kickoff.
The TFC U-16 team is led by Head Coach Paul Stalteri and are drawn into Group B with FTF Team 2, North Toronto and Woodbridge FC. The U-16’s will open the showcase on Friday, February 14 against North Toronto with a 1:00 p.m. kickoff before facing Woodbridge on Saturday, February 15 at 4:00 p.m.
Each team’s third game will be against a participating team from the opposite group and will be dependent on the results from the first two days of the showcase.
