TFC Windsor Off to a Great Start

TFC Windsor

Last weekend a group of Toronto FC Academy staff and athletes made the trip down to Windsor to partake in a Talent Identification weekend.  This was executed as part of the newly formed satellite program between Toronto FC and the Windsor Stars FC known as TFC Windsor.

The purpose of this satellite program is to provide a clear pathway to the Toronto FC Academy for young athletes in South Western Ontario. It also provides resources to help develop local area coaches.

“The partnership with Windsor is a great step forward in the development of community relations and player and coaching development in Ontario,” said Toronto FC Academy Director Laurent Guyot, “We look forward to continuing our relationship with TFC Windsor in the future. “

Thursday night the Toronto FC League1 Ontario side held an open training session in Windsor where players and parents from TFC Windsor attended. The players and parents were able to interact with TFCA staff and players and get an idea of what it is like to be in the TFCA program.

On Friday the TFC academy coaches held an in class session for TFC Windsor coaches. This session taught the Windsor coaches about TFCA training methods and coaching structure.

On Saturday and Sunday, the TFCA staff held on-field training sessions for U-15 and U-18 athletes. Coaches were also there to observe the TFCA training methods. The sessions went well and the TFCA staff were overall very satisfied with where the program is headed.

"Our partnership with Toronto FC is off to a great start with this weekend's clinic put on by Laurent and Stuart. The interest in Windsor is evident with the high turnout and it appears we will have a terrific crop of first generation Windsor TFC Academy players in this group," added Vancho Cirovski who heads up the TFC Windsor program.
