Toronto FC II announced that the club has signed midfielder Steffen Yeates to a USL contract. He will be added to the roster pending league and federation approval.
“Steffen is a talented young midfielder who we have seen up close for several years in our academy system,” said Toronto FC II head coach Mike Munoz. “We are excited to see him continue his growth as a professional within our club and look forward to his contributions this season.”
Yeates, 21, split his college career between University of Connecticut (2018) and Oregon State University (2019). With UConn, Yeates appeared in 17 games, scoring one goal while adding one assist. At Oregon State, Yeates made 14 appearances, scoring two goals in seven starts.
Before his NCAA career, Yeates made four appearances and started two games for Toronto FC II during the 2018 USL regular season. He made his debut with the Young Reds when he started against Richmond Kickers on April 26, 2018. Yeates joined the Toronto FC Academy in 2013.
Internationally, he has represented Canada at the Concacaf Men's U-17 Championship in 2017, starting all three of the team’s games at the tournament. Yeates also participated at the Concacaf Men’s U-20 Championship in 2018, scoring a goal and tallying an assist in his sole appearance against Martinique on November 10, 2018.
