Toronto FC II announced today that the club has signed defender Kobe Franklin to a USL contract. He will be added to the roster pending league and federation approval.

“Kobe is one of the most determined, goal-oriented players that I have worked with,” said Toronto FC II head coach Mike Munoz. “He knows exactly where he wants to go in his career. Every day he comes to work wanting to prove he deserves a spot in the team. I am excited to see him jump to the professional game because I know he will adapt and flourish from the start.”

Franklin, 18, represented the Canadian National Team at the 2019 FIFA U-17 World Cup, starting two of the team’s three games in Brazil. On August 19, 2018, Franklin, at 15 years, three months and 10 days, became the youngest male goalscorer in League1 Ontario history after scoring in a TFC III win against Ottawa South United. He joined the Toronto FC Academy in February 2017 after spending four years with the Chicago Fire FC Academy.

“Kobe quickly emerged as one of the highest potential players in the Academy after his move from Chicago Fire Academy,” said Toronto FC Academy Director Anthony Capotosto. “He showed the ability to influence games playing as a right full-back with his technical skills, tenacious defending and overall confidence. What is also impressive about Kobe was his willingness to learn and his determination to improve. His qualities quickly garnered the attention of the National Team staff and he was selected to represent Canada at the 2019 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Brazil.  We wish him well in this next chapter of his playing career.”
