The Pozuelo Show is off and running.
Making his Toronto FC debut on Friday night, Alejandro Pozuelo dazzled the BMO Field faithful to lead the Reds to a 4-0 victory over New York City FC. The Spaniard was a live wire in the midfield, creating chance after chance before finally supplying the opener, finished off by Jozy Altidore in the 29th minute.
He was hardly done there, bagging a second half brace in stunning fashion. After being awarded a spot kick, Pozuelo deftly deposited a Panenka from 12 yards out, leaving NYCFC goalkeeper Sean Johnson helpless.
But the coup de grâce was yet to come, leaving fans and teammates alike speechless in the 78th minute. Collecting the ball near the top of the 18-yard box, Pozuelo deftly chipped the keeper with his left foot to find the top left corner and send BMO Field into a frenzy.
Pozuelo was also named the Audi Player of the Week, earning 1,330 points, best in the league for the week.
In addition to his brace and assist, the 27-year-old had a 75 percent shooting accuracy rate, completed four key passes, and won 78 percent of his take-ons.
