Toronto FC announced Friday that the club has signed midfielder Alan Mariano MiƱo to a first team contract. The club has also acquired defender Mitchell Taintor on loan from Sacramento Republic FC of the United Soccer League (USL). He will be added to the roster pending receipt of his International Transfer Certificate (ITC).
MiƱo, 24, has made one appearance for Toronto FC II this season. Prior to joining Toronto FC II, he made 10 appearances for Sud AmƩrica in the Uruguayan 1st Division scoring twice. In 2016-17, he made 28 league appearances for Boca Unidos in the Primera B Nacional, the second division in his native Argentina. MiƱo scored three goals during his time with Boca Unidos.
Taintor, 23, has appeared and started in five matches for Sacramento Republic FC. Prior to joining Sacramento, Taintor spent two seasons (2016 & 2017) with Toronto FC II. During his time with the Young Reds, he appeared in 47 matches registering three goals and one assist. He was named captain of Toronto FC II ahead of the 2017 season. Taintor also made one appearance for Toronto FC during the 2017 Canadian Championship. He made his debut on May 23, 2017 against Ottawa Fury FC.
