One streak would continue while another would get underway when the calendar switched to April, a month that saw the season pick up pace with four more matches ahead of a daunting May.
The injury to Clint Irwin in the home opener saw Toronto FC sign TFC II keeper, Mark Pais, to a first team deal on April 4, while Alex Bono continued to impress between the posts in Irwin's stead.
The month would begin with a 2-2 draw at BMO Field against Atlanta United on April 8, where Justin Morrow's hot start continued, netting his second goal in three matches, but it was the burgeoning partnership between the attacking triumvirate of Sebastian Giovinco, Jozy Altidore, and Victor Vazquez that won the headlines.
The trio combined sublimely for Toronto's opening goal, scored by Giovinco, but it was not enough to see them past a brace from Hector Villalba. The draw would however stretch TFC's unbeaten start to five matches.
Ahead of an away date against Columbus Crew SC on April 15, Toronto received some scary news as Drew Moor was diagnosed with an irregular heart-beat that sidelined the experienced defender for a spell.
TFC would take the lead in Columbus through an Altidore header, but the influential play of Justin Meram, setting up Ola Kamara and scoring the second, handed Toronto their first loss of the campaign.
Back home for an April 21 encounter with the high-flying, Bastian Schweinsteiger-infused Chicago Fire, Toronto would get back on track and kick-start a lengthy winning streak with a 3-1 victory. Doubters silenced, a pair of Giovinco strikes, including a sumptuous free-kick – the first of many – powered the victory, either side of a heavy-hearted first half header from Eriq Zavaleta.
Vazquez, the missing piece, was proving his worth early into his MLS career, but it was Altidore who proved the hero in the final match of the month, netting a brace in a 2-0 win over the Houston Dynamo on April 28.
A pair of finishes in the first half were the difference on the night, but post-match, as was the case all season long, Altidore deflected the praise onto his teammates.
