Match Preview: Toronto FC II vs. Louisville City FC

TFC2 vs. Whitecaps 2

TFC II will look to build off of their 2-1 win against Saint Louis FC, as they finish up their 8 game road trip against Louisville City FC this Saturday at 7:30PM.

Louisville City FC is coming off an impressive 3-0 victory against Wilmington Hammerheads FC and currently sits fourth in the Eastern Conference standings with a record of 3-1-3.

The Opposition

LCFC is one of the top defensive teams in the league and ranks near the top of the standings in most defensive categories.

Over the seven matches they have played this season, LCFC has allowed just four goals, good for second in the league in goals allowed. They also sit third in clean sheets with three.

TFC II coach Jason Bent talked about the approach for this Saturday when he spoke to media prior to TFC II’s match against St. Louis.

“We’ve looked at Louisville and we know what can be expected of them.”

“If we have the same defensive shape and mentality and work rate which was fantastic [against the Rochester Rhinos], and we take a few of our chances, then I think we can get a result.”

Players to Watch

New signing Aodhan Quinn was one of the more impressive players in their victory against Wilmington Hammerheads FC.

The former Orlando City attacking midfielder made his first appearance for the club against the Hammerheads and his impact was felt immediately.

Quinn scored the second goal of the match on a well-taken left-footed volley and assisted on the third for LCFC.

Look for your Reds to try to contain Quinn and limit his time on the ball to prevent him from being an offensive outlet for Louisville.

Eight Game Road Trip Coming to an End

TFC II’s match against Louisville City FC on Saturday will be the final match in their 8 game road trip to start the season before heading home to play the Rochester Rhinos at BMO Field on May 23rd.

Midfielder Luca Uccello believes that this early road trip will help their development moving forward.

“I’ve enjoyed every away trip so far. The guys are great.”

“Sometimes we didn’t’ maybe perform our best but it’s about developing and developing as a team and if we keep doing that then anything goes as far as winning goes.”

Defender Wesley Charpie sees these road matches as a bonding experience for the young Reds that will translate into a better team on the field.

“We definitely have a good relationship you can see when we go out for team dinners and all that. Everyone has a good bond. That’s good because a lot of times that can carry onto the field.”

“We’re definitely looking forward to having that home stretch but I think in the long run this is going to make us a better team and a stronger team.”
