Bethlehem – Toronto FC II were unlucky to walk away from Goodman Stadium empty handed after a controversial night in Pennsylvania.
Tempers flared in a scoreless first half, which saw yellow cards handed out to both Jordan McCrary and Matt Real for a scuffle after a dangerous tackle.
Shortly into the second half, Bethlehem jumped out in front. Cory Burke broke free in the box and buried his third of the season.
The Reds got their chance to equalize after McCrary collided in the box with a Bethlehem defender, the referee pointed to the spot. Captain Mitch Taintor stepped up d buried his second goal of the season to the ‘keeper's right.
The match changing moment occurred in the 80th minute. Bethlehem hit the Reds on a counter and Burke was in on goal with defender Julian Dunn in hot pursuit. Dunn was deemed to had made contact with Burke who went down in the box. A PK was awarded and Steel FC captain James Chambers converted from the spot to give the hosts the lead. Dunn was also showed a second yellow on the play.
With the Reds down to 10 men, Bethlehem found another goal in injury time. Canadian Chris Nanco slipped home his fourth of the season.
The Reds continue their road trip next weekend in Richmond as they battle the Kickers on Saturday night. Kickoff is set for 7:00 PM. As always you can catch all the action right here on TFC2.ca
