St. Louis – Toronto FC II dropped a hard fought match against Saint Louis FC 2-0 on Friday night.
The hosts opened the scoring off a 23rd-minute corner. The ball was swung to the far post where AJ Cochran met it with a diving header that sent the ball past Mark Pais.
The Reds came close to equalising in the 39th when first team loanee Sergio Camargo made a great solo run across the top of the box. Camargo played a perfectly weighted through ball for Shaan Hundal to run onto. However, Wesley Charpie made a worldly tackle to prevent his former teammate from tying up the match.
Early in the second half, Saint Louis came out and doubled their lead courtesy of a Christian Volesky goal. Jose Angulo played in Volesky who chipped an onrushing Pais. The ball crept towards the goal and Liam Fraser made a last ditch effort to clear it off the line, but the referee awarded the goal for Saint Louis after consulting with his assistant.
The Reds almost got a goal back when Luis Pereira sent a blast on frame. Unfortunately, for the Reds, a Saint Louis FC defender was on the line and redirected Pereira’s shot behind for a corner.
The Reds return to action next Saturday when they host the Pittsburgh Riverhounds at the Ontario Soccer Centre. Kick-off is set for 7:30 PM. It will the first ever Toronto FC II "Young Reds Day". Kids 12 and under will receive a free TFC II item upon entry and all children will be allowed to take a PK on net following the conclusion of the match. Get your tickets for Young Reds Day here.
