Toronto FC II fell to FC Cincinnati 1-0 on Saturday evening at Nippert Stadium. A crowd of 18,214 witnessed the hometown team take all three points.
FC Cincinnati struck first with an 18th-minute header from Danni Konig. Off a restart, the ball found its way to Tyler Polak who swung in a cross to the far post for Konig to direct past Mark Pais.
The Young Reds came close to equalising in the 34th minute. Ryan Telfer threw the ball in for Shaan Hundal who made a quick move to get around the FCC defender. Hundal was in on goal but he put his shot off the side netting.
TFC II came out in the second half applying a lot of pressure to FC Cincinnati. They almost equalised off a corner in the 52nd. The ball fell to Luis Pereira, who hit it on the volley. The ball took a deflection on its way towards the net but Polak was positioned perfectly on the line and stopped the shot.
The Reds came oh so close to equalising again in the 63rd. On a counter attack, Sergio Camargo played in Shaan Hundal, who was in all alone with the keeper. Hundal took a first touch shot past an onrushing Mitch Hildebrandt. The ball rolled 15 yards before hitting directly off the far post.
The Young Reds made a late push for an equaliser deep into stoppage time. Oyvind Alseth was hauled down just outside the box. On the ensuing free-kick Pereira played the ball up top to Alseth, Alseth looped in a ball. Multiple Reds went up for it, but McCrary was called for a foul on keeper Mitch Hildebrandt.
