At 36 years young, Benoit Cheyrou is still going strong.
The Frenchman once again showed his class on Tuesday night with an impressive shift against the Ottawa Fury, notching the lone goal for the Reds on the evening and his second goal in as many outings.
The Situation
With the game still scoreless and the Reds applying the pressure, Cheyrou collects the ball near midfield and looks to create. But instead of playing provider, he decides to take it himself.
The Play
Cheyrou beings his driving run as Ottawa fail to close him down, giving him time and space to operate. Looking for an opening, he finds forward Jordan Hamilton in traffic, who plays a terrific one-two back towards Cheyrou.
The passes were weighted perfectly, as the former Marseille midfielder took the return ball in stride and continued in on goal. The Fury were left scrambling to recover, but it was already too late. Cheyrou takes a few touches before hitting a delicate chip over goalkeeper Callum Irving for the 1-0 lead in the first half.
Take another look from a different angle. You can see the Ottawa defence tentatively watching as Cheyrou operates. As Hamilton checks to the ball, the centerbacks are pulled out of position just enough for Cheyrou to run in behind, leaving him with only the keeper to beat.

What They Said
Jordan Hamilton: [Benoit] makes things easy. He sees passes that most players don't see and he makes runs that most players don't make."
