Two-assist performance lands Insigne on MLS Team of the Matchday

Toronto FC had something to prove on Saturday night.

In need of a home win, the Reds turned to their talismanic captain who put on a show in a 2-1 win over D.C. United at BMO Field.

The common denominator between both goals was Italian International Lorenzo Insigne who bagged two assists on the night earning him his first MLS Team of the Matchday honours of the 2023 campaign.

The designated player's first assist of the night came off a set-piece, delivering an expertly weighted ball into the area from the corner where Deandre Kerr rose up to head the Reds into the lead.

Insigne played provider once more on the match-winning goal in the 72nd minute, latching onto a cross from defender Richie Laryea before finding Kosi Thompson who made no mistake with the finish.
