Two Academy teams headed to Mexico for top tournaments

Two TFC Academy teams are heading south to take part in tournaments featuring top talent from around North America.


First, the Toronto FC Academy U-13 (2005) team is off to Toluca to take part in the CONCACAF Under-13 Champions League. This is the fourth edition of the tournament, with TFC participating for the first time last year.


The TFC 2004s put in a great showing last year finishing in fourth place overall after a great run to the semifinals.


This year’s U-13s were drawn into Group D with Aguilas del Uagro (MEX), Olimpia (Honduras), and San Juan Jabloteh (Trinidad and Tobago).


The tournament kicks off on Wednesday, August 15 when the Reds take on Olimpia. The game will be available via live stream with kickoff set for 3:00 PM. The Reds will then take on San Juan Jabloteh on August 16 (1:00 PM) and close out the group stage against Aguilas del Uagro on August 17 (11:00 AM).


The top two teams from the group will advance to the quarterfinals of the knockout stage.


The other team headed south is the Toronto FC U-16 (2002) team who will be in Mexico City to compete in the Liga MX Sub Internacional. The tournament feature four sides from both Liga MX and MLS in a seven-match nine-day marathon.


Toronto FC opens the tournament up on Thursday, August 16 against Pachuca (MEX). They will then play Club America (MEX), Atlanta United, Chivas (MEX), LA Galaxy, FC Dallas, and close out the group stage against Atlas (MEX).

The top MLS and Liga MX side will meet in the finals held at Azteca Stadium on Saturday, August 25th. Most of the games will be available on live stream.
