Toronto FC will face its first MLS competition of the preseason when they travel to Carson, CA on Saturday morning to take on the LA Galaxy (11 AM PT/ 2 PM ET) in a closed door scrimmage.
The Reds are unbeaten so far in the preseason, though records are irrelevant at this stage of the year. Those results also came against two college teams and a PDL club. The Galaxy will represent the biggest test to date and mark an end to the Southern California portion of TFC’s preseason.
“For the guys that have played MLS minutes it’ll be good to get back to that tempo and style, I guess you can say,” said goalkeeper Clint Irwin following training on Friday. “And for guys that haven’t played a MLS team like that or haven’t seen that many minutes it’ll be a good test for them. A lot of the guys have done really well playing against the college teams or PDL teams but it’s definitely going to be a step up.”
The Galaxy welcomed Ashley Cole and Jelle Van Damme to camp on Friday after both players completed their signings this week. The pair are unlikely to feature in tomorrow’s scrimmage, however.
Projected Toronto FC Starting XI: Irwin; Lovitz, Moor, Perquis, Bloom; Osorio, Cheyrou, Delgado; Babouli, Hamilton, Endoh.
