Toronto FC announced today that the club has traded defender Luca Petrasso to Orlando City SC for a guaranteed $300,000 in 2023 General Allocation Money (GAM) and additional $50,000 in 2024 and $50,000 in 2025 GAM if certain performance-based metrics are met. As part of the trade, Toronto FC will also retain a sell-on percentage in the event of a permanent transfer of the defender.
Petrasso, 22, completed his first season with Toronto FC, where he made 27 appearances since signing as a Homegrown Player on January 11, 2022. He made his First Team debut on TFC’s 2022 Home Opener against New York Red Bulls on March 7 and registered his first assist for the club. The left-footed defender earned a spot in the MLS Team of The Week (Week 4), after registering two assists in a 2-1 win over D.C. United on March 19. Petrasso was part of the squad that won the postponed 2020 Canadian Championship (played on June 4, 2022) after defeating Forge FC 5-4 on penalties.
Prior to signing with the First Team, Petrasso spent four seasons with Toronto FC II, appearing in 63 matches and scoring three goals since joining the team. The Academy product originally signed with TFC II on March 15, 2018, and made his professional debut on April 26, 2018, against the Richmond Kickers. He also represented Toronto FC U-18/19 in the U.S. Soccer Development Academy (USSDA) competition in 2018 and 2019, making three appearances in total. Petrasso joined the Toronto FC Academy in January 2013.
