Toronto FC announced Wednesday that the club has re-signed goalkeeper Alex Bono to a contract extension.
“Alex was a big part of our success last season. He set club records for wins and clean sheets and was a critical piece of our championship team,” said Toronto FC Sr. Vice-President, Soccer Operations & General Manager Tim Bezbatchenko. “Since joining the club as a first round pick in 2015, Alex’s ability to make key saves in big moments has been critical to our success.”
Bono, 24, has made 18 appearances, recording a record of 7-6-5 and registering four clean sheets across MLS league play and the Concacaf Champions League this season for Toronto FC. Last season Bono set club records for most clean sheets in league play in a single season (10) and league wins in a single season (19). Bono also holds Toronto FC’s record for wins across all competitions (37).
Bono has earned one cap for the U.S. Men’s National Team (USMNT). He made his debut and earned his first USMNT clean sheet on May 28, 2018 in a 3-0 victory against Bolivia at Talen Energy Stadium in Chester, Pa.
