Toronto FC fell in the latest edition of the Canadian Classique, dropping a 4-3 result to rivals CF Montréal.
The Reds started off on fire with back-to-back early goals from the Italian Internationals. Federico Bernardeschi converted yet another penalty kick in the 5th minute before Lorenzo Insigne doubled the lead with a stunning volley in the 7th minute.
Montréal responded with two quick goals of their own, tallying in the 19th and 21st minute to level the match.
In the waning moments of the first half, the visitors would take a lead they would not relinquish to head into the break with a one-goal advantage.
Canadian international Allistair Johnston doubled the Montréal lead in the 54th minute, heading one home to the far post past Alex Bono.
Insigne managed a late consolation goal in second half stoppage time, but it wasn't enough to complete the comeback effort.
TFC return to action on Saturday night as they take on Atlanta United FC at Mercedes Benz Stadium.
