TFCII Top 5 Moments

March 25, 2017 at Phoenix Rising – Opening Night Win

The Reds were in tough on opening night against a re-branded Phoenix Rising side. With the likes of Shaun Wright-Phillips and Omar Bravo on the field and a crowd of over 6,000 in attendance, Phoenix was planning for a party.

The Young Reds walked in, and with the help of a Ryan Telfer strike, spoiled the Rising’s party. The match saw strong TFC II debuts from Telfer, Lars Eckenrode, Jordan McCrary, Brandon Onkony and Mark Pais.

July 8, 2017 vs. Ottawa Fury FC – A New Rivalry

The Reds played host to their new inter-provincial rivals the Ottawa Fury on an early July evening. Both teams traded chances during the hard-fought match but it was going to take something special for a winner.

Luca Uccello provided that something special when he sent in an incredible strike from well outside the box. The two rivals split the season series evenly but Uccello’s strike was the top moment of the newly minted rivalry.

August 9, 2017 vs. Charlotte Independence – Hamilton at the Death

The Charlotte Independence rolled into BMO Field in first place in the Eastern Conference. The Young Reds were coming off a win off the previous first place side, the Charleston Battery.

TFC II jumped out ahead after Jordan Hamilton found the back of goal early in the second half. Charlotte quickly equalized off a broken play. The kicks were reduced to 10 men after an egregious challenge. However, Charlotte hit on the counter and took a late 2-1 lead.

The game looked all but lost until Hamilton spun and curled home his second of the match on what turned out to be the penultimate kick of the match. Hamilton’s dramatic brace earned the Reds a point in front of an energetic BMO Field.

August 26, 2017 at Charlotte Independence – The Comeback

The Kicks jumped out to an early 2-0 lead and it looked like the Young Reds were in for another tough road result. Cody Mizell was tremendous for the Kicks in the first half coming up with a pair of spectacular stops to keep TFC II off the board.

The turning point of the match came in the 49th minute when Alex Martinez was sent off for an altercation with Jordan McCrary. TFC II got the comeback started with a strike from Ashtone Morgan and then Ben Spencer tied the game with his first goal of the season.

Fresh off his brace against Charlotte earlier in the month, Jordan Hamilton scored another clutch goal, this time to complete an incredible comeback for the Young Reds. In just 7 minutes, the Young Reds went from 2-0 down to 3-2 up. To top it off Angelo Cavalluzzo came up with a save of the week nominee in the 90th to secure the three points for TFC II.

September 27, 2017 vs. Louisville City FC – Complete Performance

Stop me if you have heard this one before. TFC II knocked off a first place side with a great team performance. It happened once again, as the Reds took on a first place Louisville City FC in late September.

Cavalluzzo and the backline were in great form on the night keeping the high-powered Lou City attack at bay. Shaan Hundal broke the deadlock in the 73rd as he calmly finished off a great counter started by Julian Dunn.
