On a just plain beautiful afternoon at the Kia Training Ground, Toronto FC III held on to defeat the Vaughan Azzurri 4-3 in thrilling fashion.
Midfielder Kota Sakurai opened the scoring by banging in a 40-yard free-kick for his first goal of the season.
Shortly after, Ricardo John doubled the Reds' lead as he outmuscled a Vaughan defender before dribbling past the 'keeper and slotting it home.
Just before half time, Cyrus Rollocks made it 3-0 as he slipped behind the Azzurri’s backline and tucked in his fifth of the season.
Vaughan broke the goose egg in the 58th as Tomasz Sklublak fired a shot past Reds' ‘keeper Gianluca Catalano.
Vaughan cut the lead to one in the 63rd minute as Joseph Di Chiara finished off an Azzurri attack.
Just five minutes later Rollocks restored the Reds’ two-goal lead after he calmly finished past the Azzurri's ‘keeper for his second of the match.
Vaughan pulled one back in the 88th minute as Alexander Zis sent in a shot from the top of the 18.
The Reds held off a final push from the Azzurri to hold on to the 4-3 victory. The win moves the Reds to 7-2-1 on the season. The victory also pushed the Reds’ undefeated streak to seven. Next up for TFC III is a match against Master’s Futbol on July 22nd.
