Atlanta – Goals on goals on goals on goals. Toronto FC II scored four times but was unlucky to walk away empty-handed after a nine-goal thriller in Atlanta.
The hosts jumped out to the early lead as Mikey Ambrose curled in a free kick past debutant keeper Gianluca Catalano. Catalano had no chance as Ambrose put the ball away in the bottom right corner with his left foot.
The Reds equalized just 12 minutes later as Ayo Akinola finished off a great cross from Aidan Daniels for his first goal for Toronto FC II since 2016.
The tie was short lived as Atlanta forward Romario Williams was left unmarked by the TFC II backline and the Jamaican international made no mistake firing a volley past Catalano.
Ambrose stuck again off a free kick as he curled it in from practically the same spot as the first to make it 3-1 for the stripes.
The Reds pulled back into the match as Aidan Daniels did well to earn a penalty kick after making a great run into the box. Daniels finished off what he earned slotting home the spot kick past Mitch Hildebrandt.
Right out of the halftime restart the Reds equalized again as Akinola set up Uccello for his first goal of the season.
However, just two minutes later Jon Gallagher finished off a chance to pull the home side back in front
Unfazed, the Reds battled back with Uccello scoring his second of the match finishing off a tidy through ball from Akinola.
Atlanta went up once again as Brandon Vazquez re-directed a low ball from Jose Carranza.
Not to go down with a fight the Reds came very close to pulling out a point with the last touch of the game as substitute Matthew Srbely played in defender Robert Boskovic who was in a pocket of space to the right of the goal but his shot was fired into the side netting.
The loss moves Toronto FC II to 0-7-2 on the season. They are back in action this Saturday as they travel to Charlotte to take on the Independence. Kickoff is set for 7:30 PM.
