Toronto FC (0W-4L-2T, 2 points) and the Vancouver Whitecaps FC (4W-1L-1T, 13 points) earned a point apiece after a goalless draw on a wet and windy Saturday afternoon at BMO Field.
Toronto FC Head Coach Robin Fraser made four changes from last week’s road loss against New York Red Bulls with Zane Monlouis, Kevin Long, Matty Longstaff and Markus Cimermancic making way for Sigurd Rosted, Jonathan Osorio, Derrick Etienne Jr. and Deandre Kerr in the Reds’ starting eleven.
Following a chilly opening 45 minutes at BMO Field, TFC were enforced into a pair of changes early in the second half, with Henry Wingo and Deandre Kerr leaving the field through injury to be replaced by Kosi Thompson and Ola Brynhildsen in the 53rd minute.
With both sides looking for an opener, Toronto FC shot-stopper Sean Johnson was called into action and was on hand to successfully deny substitute Emmanuel Sabbi’s effort from close-range in the 67th minute.
Norwegian striker Ola Brynhildsen got his first taste of action after entering the pitch moments later, after previously featuring in two road matches for his new club this season.
The two Canadian clubs exchanged goalscoring opportunities in the closing stages but with both sides unable to break the deadlock, the points were evenly shared upon the referee’s full-time whistle.
Toronto FC hit the road next to take on Inter Miami CF at Chase Stadium next Sunday evening. Kick-off from Fort Lauderdale, Florida is set for 7 p.m. ET and will be broadcast globally on MLS Season Pass on Apple TV.
