Match Recap: TFC Academy 5-0 Master's FA Saints

TFC Academy

The Kia TFC Academy put on an impressive performance at the Ontario Soccer Centre on Sunday, defeating Master’s FA Saints 5-0.

Alexander Zis, Steven Furlano, Aidan Daniels, Alexander Pena, and Liam Fraser were all on the score sheet for the Academy.

The win extends TFC Academy’s win streak to 5 matches. They have outscored their opponents 22-4 during that span.

The team sits 7th in League 1 Ontario with a record of 8-1-8.

TFC Academy’s Tristan Borges had a great opportunity to open up the scoring in the first ten minutes of the match.

Borges, who was recently called up the Canada U-20 camp, was unlucky to see his free kick from outside the box go just over the bar.

Shortly thereafter Alexander Zis opened up the scoring for the young Reds.

A nice passing display in midfield saw Zis end up in the box alone and he made no mistake, putting TFC Academy up 1-0 in the 13th minute.

TFCA Captain Steven Furlano notched the second goal of the match 20 minutes later.

Furlano ran down the right wing, cut into the box, and released a low right-footed shot that beat Master’s FA Saints goalkeeper Shane Lopez.

Two minutes later midfielder Aidan Daniels extended the Academy’s lead to three.

With the Saints playing an offside trap, Daniels played a pass through the middle of the Saints backline and ran onto the pass himself before putting the ball into the bottom right corner.

It was great awareness by Daniels to catch the Saints flat-footed as they were expecting a through pass to one the TFCA forwards.

TFCA leading scorer Cyrus Rollocks thought he had his 12th of the season in the 39th minute but his goal was called back for offside.

Goalkeeper Nikita Degtyar didn’t have much action in the match but he did come up with a huge save in the second half, diving to his left to rob Saints forward Levonte Johnson.

Forward Alexander Pena came in as a second half substitute for Cyrus Rollocks and extended TFCA’s lead in the 71st minute.

Leonard Sohn put in a cross from the left flank and Pena tapped it in for the Academy’s fourth of the day.

TFC Academy added their fifth of the match in stoppage time after Nicholas Osorio was pulled down in the box.

Liam Fraser stepped up and placed it into the bottom right corner beating Shane Lopez who guessed the opposite side.

TFC Academy’s next match comes on Saturday, September 5th against Durham United FC at Oshawa Civic Stadium. Kick off is set for 8PM ET.
