Toronto FC II are on the road to take on the Richmond Kickers this Saturday at 7PM ET.

The Young Reds saw their three-game unbeaten streak snapped last weekend in the 2-1 loss to USL newcomers FC Cincinnati. 

Raheem Edwards had the lone goal for the Reds in the first minute of stoppage time of the first half. He now has four goals in four straight games – the first four matches this season – tying last season’s high held by Mo Babouli.

“There was a lot of positives [from Sunday’s match],” said Head Coach Jason Bent following training on Tuesday. “We played well, we just had two lapses of concentration, but outside of that there are a lot things we can look forward to so it’s not all doom and gloom.”

TFC II go into Saturday’s match with a record of 1-1-2 to start the season.

While on paper it only looks like a slight improvement from last year’s 1-2-1 record over the first four games, the team has seen tremendous progress in their play since the end of last season.

“This year we have a lot more of an experienced group along with the couple additions we got on our team,” said defender Wesley Charpie on the team’s start. “It’s a very hard working team. We have good chemistry.”

TFC II and the Richmond Kickers split the two-game season series last year.

The Kickers are coming off back-to-back losses to Bethlehem Steel FC and the Charlotte Independence and currently hold a record of 2-2-1 in five matches.

Saturday’s contest will be the first of a three-game series between the two clubs in 2016.

Players to Watch

Yudai Imura. The Japanese midfielder is leading the Kickers offensively with 3 goals and 1 assist in five matches this season. He was on the score sheet in the Kickers’ 2-1 loss to TFC II last August.

Jason Yeisley. The forward has one goal so far but TFC II are familiar with him from last year. He scored the opener in Richmond’s 2-1 winner over TFC II last season.

“Yeisley is a big threat. He’s physical, he’s strong, he’s difficult to defend against in the channel,” said Bent.
