The rivalry continues. TFC II kickoff its second game of the season on the road against rivals FC Montreal on Saturday, April 9 at 7:30PM ET.
TFC II started the season with a 2-2 draw against New York Red Bulls II at Red Bull Arena. FC Montreal were shutout 1-0 against USL newcomers Bethlehem Steel FC in their season opener back on March 25. Both teams are coming off a bye-week.
With the two rivals splitting last year’s four-game season series, Skylar Thomas expects a very intense match with bragging rights on the line come Saturday.
“There’s a little bit more built up seeing as we are 2-2 from the series last year so one team is looking to one up [the other],” he said.
“They’re a solid side all around. They’ve got good players in attack that could hurt us, and basically we’ve got to be aware of them and understand how they play.”
Jason Bent and his side go into Olympic Stadium searching for their first win of the season. The Young Reds will look to recreate history, as TFC II defeated FC Montreal 2-0 at Olympic Stadium in their second match of the 2015 season.
“It’s a rivalry, there’s no love lost. Both teams know what’s at stake.”
“We were fortunate enough to be able to win on their ground last year, so we’re comfortable at that stadium and hopefully we can go in and do the job,” Bent added.
