Toronto FC captain and midfielder Jonathan Osorio has been named to the Major League Soccer (MLS) Team of the Matchday 32 bench after recording a goal and an assist in Saturday’s 2-1 victory over Austin FC at BMO Field.

Fresh from representing Canada in a pair of friendlies against the United States and Mexico during the September international window, Jonathan Osorio returned to club action and played an influential role in the Reds’ first victory against Austin FC in club history.

The Reds got off the mark early as Jonathan Osorio unleashed an unstoppable half-volley past Austin goalkeeper Brad Stuver in the opening stages. The 7th minute goal marked Osorio’s 65th goal for TFC across all competitions, becoming only the third player in club history behind Sebastian Giovinco and Jozy Altidore to reach the 65-goal mark for the club.

The hosts then doubled their advantage when a swift passing sequence from back-to-front between Raoul Petretta, Lorenzo Insigne, Jonathan Osorio, Richie Laryea and Deandre Kerr culminated with the Canadian forward firing a powerful, right-footed finish in the 30th minute.

With his goal and the secondary assist on Kerr’s game-winning goal, Jonathan Osorio became the second player in club history to record 100 MLS regular season goal contributions (48 goals, 52 assists) and the club’s first since Sebastian Giovinco (120).

The MLS Team of the Matchday selection marks the Canadian international’s first honour of the 2024 MLS campaign and the twelfth of his MLS career with the Reds.

In total, Toronto FC have now earned 18 MLS Team of the Matchday honours during the 2024 MLS regular season – Federico Bernardeschi (4), Sean Johnson (3), Lorenzo Insigne (3), Deybi Flores (2), Deandre Kerr (1), Richie Laryea (1), Kevin Long (1), Jonathan Osorio (1), Prince Owusu (1) and Tyrese Spicer (1).
