Toronto FC forward Jermain Defoe was selected by MLS All-Stars coach Caleb Porter to participate in the 2014 AT&T MLS All-Star Game on Saturday. The MLS All-Stars will face reigning German Bundesliga Champions FC Bayern München on August 6 at Providence Park in Portland, Oregon.
Defoe is currently in his first season with Toronto FC after the club reached a transfer agreement with English Premier League club, Tottenham Hotspur F.C. and signed the English international forward as a Designated Player on January 10, 2014. Defoe has made a combined 15 appearances for Toronto FC in all competitions registering 12 goals and three assists. He was also named MLS Player of the Week by the North American Soccer Reporters (NASR) for Week 2.
This is Jermain Defoe’s first MLS All-Star team selection. He becomes the fifth player in club history to be named to the MLS All-Star squad, joining Ronnie O’Brien (2007), Jimmy Brennan (2008), Dwayne De Rosario (2009 & 2010), and Michael Bradley (2014).
