Two TFC Academy sides are in Houston, Texas this long weekend for the final stages of the Generation adidas Cup qualifying. Both the U-17 (2002/2003) and U-15 (2004) teams will be looking to pick up important points to help secure their placement for the GA Cup finals going down in April.
The first round of qualifying was hosted at the BMO Training Ground back in October. The U-17 team went 2-1-0 that weekend but then lost a game in Montreal a week later to sit at 2-2-0 heading into this weekend. With six points the U-17s are in third place in their group, three points behind Columbus. The top two teams in the group, plus two wildcards, gain qualification into the Champions Division for the finals.
The U-15s enjoyed their time on home turf back in October going 3-0-0. The record has them sitting atop Group B, one point clear of second place. Only the top team in the group will advance to the finals in April.
The U-17s get started on Friday with a match against the host Dynamo, then take on Sporting KC on Monday to close out the qualifiers.
The younger squad gets going on Friday as well with a matchup against the Columbus Crew, they'll then clash with the Chicago Fire in a potential battle for first place, and they'll close out qualifying on Monday facing the Crew again.
