GA Cup Recap: U-12s Suffer Defeat On Match Day Two

U12

The U-12 Kia Toronto FC Academy were unable to build off the two wins a day before, suffering a 3-1 loss against Spanish side Celta de Vigo and a 4-1 defeat against Chivas de Guadalajara on the second match day of the Generation adidas Cup.

Kia TFC Academy 1-3 Celta de Vigo

The U-12’s took on Celta de Vigo in day two of the tournament.

Celta de Vigo would be the first international club that the Young Reds would play in the GA Cup.

The Spanish side would score three unanswered goals in the first half.

Their second came from the penalty spot following a questionable call by the official.

Celta de Vigo scored their third off a corner kick. It was a scramble in the box and a Celta attacker pounced on the loose ball before the Young Reds could clear.

The boys had a stronger second half and arguably controlled the match following the brief halftime break.

Luca Accettola would put the Young Reds on the board.

Defender Abdul-Mouaty Hamad made a splendid pass down the right wing into the path of forward Keegan Walker, who then played it across to an open Accettola, who finished the play off.

That would be the only goal for the U-12’s in the match, as they dropped their first match of the tournament 3-1.

Kia TFC Academy 1-4 Chivas de Guadalajara

The U-12’s had some stiff competition in their second match of the day.

Chivas de Guadalajara scored the opening goal in the match from a long-range strike. TFC Academy goalkeeper Dino Bontis got a hand onto the shot but wasn’t able to keep it out.

It was unfortunate for Bontis, as he’s had a stellar tournament so far and was unlucky not to keep the shot out.

TFC Academy forward Jahkeele Marshall-Ruty came close to equalizing shortly thereafter but his right-footed volley missed the net by a few inches.

The Young Reds mounted a ton of pressure following the Chivas goal but were unable to breakdown the Mexican side’s defense.

Chivas would score their second of the match just before halftime. Their striker received a pass behind the TFC Academy defenders and had plenty of time to place a shot past the keeper.

Chivas would extend their lead to 3-0 before Marshall-Ruty got the Young Reds on the board.

Midfielder Marko Stojadinovic played a perfectly weighted through ball to Marshall-Ruty who then placed a shot into the far corner past the Chivas keeper.

Chivas would make it 4-1 not long after, scoring a header off a corner kick.
