2018 GA Cup final groups & schedule announced

Major League Soccer unveiled Friday the 2018 Generation adidas Cup Final groups and schedule. The Toronto FC Academy U-17 (2001) team and U-12 (2006) will both be participating in the tournament held in Frisco, Texas between March 22- April 1.


The Toronto FC U-17’s finished as the top qualifier for the tournament going undefeated over the two qualifying stages. The Reds went 5-0-1-0 outscoring their opponents 13-5.


The U-17s have been placed in Group A of the Champions Division and will play D.C. United, Eintracht Frankfurt (Germany), and three-time defending champions River Plate (Argentina).


The Reds will kick off their tournament against Eintracht on March 23 at 3:30 PM ET, then play D.C. on March 25 at 5:45 PM ET and close out the group stage on March 27 against River Plate at 7:15 PM ET.


The top team from the group will qualify for the semifinals and play for a chance to be crowned GA Cup Champions. The other teams will also play two placement games based on where they finish in the group. Streaming information for the tournament will be announced closer to the beginning of the tournament.


The TFC U-12’s will also be in Texas competing for the GA Cup title. The U-12s will play four 7-a-side matches over two days. The Reds have been grouped with LAFC, Colorado Rapids, New York City FC, and the Portland Timbers.


The U-12s will kick things off on March 29 against NYCFC and LAFC, and then they will play Colorado and Portland on March 30. The top team from each group will compete for the title with the other teams playing placement games based on their group placement.
