Reds play host to U-15 Canada Showcase
The Kia Training Ground played host to the Canada Soccer U-15 showcase last week. The round robin showcase featured a Canadian select squad and the academy/residency squads from Toronto FC, FC Edmonton, Vancouver Whitecaps FC, and Impact Montréal FC. The event is used as an opportunity for the Canada Men’s National team program to watch and engage with young prospects, in this case, athletes born in 2002 or later.
The Toronto FC Academy U-15 team (2002) went 3-1-0 over the duration of the showcase. They opened the tournament with a pair of 1-0 victories over FC Edmonton and the Montreal Impact. Jacen Russell-Rowe and Malik Henry were the goal scorers.
The Reds then went on to defeat the CSA select squad 6-1. Julian Accettola, Julian Altobelli, Henry, Amir Batyrev, and Mathew Wrobel x2 were the goal scorers in the victory. The Reds lost their final match of the tournament in a hard fought match against the Vancouver Whitecaps. Altobelli and Theodore Corbeanu scored the goals in the 4-2 defeat.
Toronto FC III back in the win column
Toronto FC III was victorious over the visiting North Mississauga Panthers on Saturday afternoon. Ethan Beckford opened the scoring off a Mississauga defensive error in the 3rd minute. Marko Mandekic doubled the lead in the 15th when he found space at the back post and tucked it home.
The Reds controlled the majority of the play in the first half but could only muster the two goals. North Miss fired back in the 75th minute but the Reds held strong and closed out the match to move to 2-2-0 on the season.
TFC III are back at it next weekend when they host the Sanjaxx Lions on Sunday.
