Toronto FC re-acquired goalkeeper Clint Irwin from Atlanta United FC in exchange for defender Mark Bloom and GAM (General Allocation Money) on Tuesday. Irwin, had been selected by Atlanta United FC in the third round of the 2016 MLS Expansion Draft earlier on Tuesday.
“Our hope was to not lose anyone in the expansion draft. No matter how you work your protected list, due to the depth of our roster we knew it was a possibility and we had to prepare accordingly,” said Toronto FC General Manager Tim Bezbatchenko. “We are pleased to have Clint back and wish Mark and his family all the best in his home town of Atlanta and thank him for his four years of contributions to the club.”
Bloom, 29, made a combined 44 appearances and registered four assists between MLS league matches, MLS Cup playoffs and the Amway Canadian Championship over his career with Toronto FC.
