Playoff scenarios heading into Decision Day

Decision day is looming and Toronto FC will have a lot on the line when they take the field this weekend. Here is a quick rundown of all the potential scenarios the Reds could face on Sunday.


Toronto FC Win vs. Chicago and New York City FC loss or draw vs. Columbus

  • Toronto FC finishes 2nd in the East.
  • NYCFC finishes 3rd in the East. 


Toronto FC would earn a bye into the Conference Semifinals. They would travel to face the 2nd lowest advancing seed from the knockout round on Sunday October 30 and then host the 2nd leg of the round on Sunday November 6 at BMO field.


Toronto FC loss vs. Chicago Fire or a New York City FC Win vs. Columbus Crew

  • NYCFC finishes 2nd in the East
  • Toronto FC finishes 3rd in the East.


Toronto FC would host the 6th place (Philly, Montreal, or New England) team at BMO field on either Wednesday October 26 or Thursday October 27 in the knockout round.


Toronto FC draw vs. Chicago and a New York City FC loss vs. Columbus

  • Toronto FC and NYCFC tie for the 2nd in the East.
  • NYCFC would get 2nd place due to holding the first tiebreaker (Wins NYCFC-14, TFC-13) over TFC
  • Toronto FC finishes 3rd in the East. 


Toronto FC would host the 6th place (Philly, Montreal, or New England) team at BMO field on either Wednesday October 26 or Thursday October 27 in the knockout round.
