The final 401 derby of the season did not lack drama or excitement. Toronto FC II fell to bitter rivals FC Montreal 4-3 in a wild one at the OSC on Sunday afternoon.
Toronto FC II did not wait long to score their first goal. Anthony Osorio sent a perfect cross into the box that Martin Davis was able to connect on for his first professional goal. Shortly after Montreal would answer. Captain Louis Béland-Goyette curled his shot from outside the box over an outstretched Clint Irwin.
Irwin, who was making first appearance in over 2 months had this to say after the match, “I felt really good out there. … it was important for me to get back on the field and be in a match situation."
Shortly after the Montreal equalizer, newly acquired forward Ricardo John would score his first goal with Toronto FC II. A perfectly executed set piece ended with John getting the ball from Skylar Thomas. The Trinidad and Tobago native made no mistake and headed home his first professional goal.
The Impact would answer just before the half. Anthony Jackson-Hamel would score the equalizer. Shortly after the equalizer, FC Montreal would go ahead on an Alessandro Riggi goal.
The second half got off to a great start for TFC II. Ricardo John again found himself in the right position. After Wesley Charpie's shot was stopped, John pounced on the rebound for his second goal of the match. “Couldn't expect a better debut, I just wanted to help the team and did my best, and got two goals, it was great,” said John.
FC Montreal would find the late winner. Substitute Heikel Jarras ran onto a ball from Marco Dominguez and sent a perfect shot into the low corner.
Toronto FC II is back in action on Sunday September 4 when they play host to the Charlotte Independence. Kickoff is at 4PM.
