Match Recap: TFC II vs. Wilmington

Hundal

Vaughan, On - An open game saw a 10-man Toronto FC II go down 3-1 to the visting Wilmington Hammerheads at the Ontario Soccer Centre.

Shaan Hundal opened the scoring for the game in the 23rd minute.
Robert Boskovic released Sal Bernal down the line with a ball inside right back Tom Parrat. The winger squared the ball to Hundal who turned sharply amidst three defenders and finished into the bottom right corner for his first professional goal.
The Wilmington equaliser came in the 30th minute via the penalty mark.
Bruno Perone, who Thomas had kept quiet on set-pieces, dispatched the spot kick into the right side of the goal for his team leading 4th goal of the season.
Mael Corboz got his first of the season in the 83rd minute.
After a quick one-two with Justin Moose on the edge of the area he showed good skill to open up space and finish into the left side of the goal.
Matthew Barnes-Homer wrapped up the scoring in the 90th minute after a collision with Quillan Roberts. He was left with a wide open net and duly rolled the ball home.
TFC II started the game eagerly, pressing high and refusing to let Wilmington settle in possession. They were able to keep on the front foot, and Bernal and Jobe were having joy down the flanks.
The 19th minute saw a streaking Jobe and Hundal in a 2 on 1 after a well-defended free kick. The Wilmington defence was able to rein in the play, but the team showed good maturity to keep the play alive and move the ball to the right side for Jobe to put a solid strike on net.
Wilmington were able to craft a few half chances, but TFC II had opportunities to go into the break ahead. They saw the ball cleared of the line after Thomas had gotten to a loose ball in the penalty area, and Bernal nearly had a goal of the season contender when he met Brian James’ floated cross with an overhead kick that only missed by inches.
Wilmington came out for the second half with renewed purpose, with Corboz in particular looking to impress himself on the game.
TFC II were weathering the early pressure well and continuing to offer danger on the break as Hundal was holding the ball up intelligently.
The turning point came in the 60th minute as Wilmington lofted a ball over the top for Parker to chase. He got into a tangle with Thomas and went down on the edge of the box. The referee adjudged it to have been a yellow card offence and Toronto were down to 10 with half an hour to play.
Toronto will hit the road for their next game, taking on Charlotte Independence on Saturday June 4, 2016. Watch the game via livestream at Tfc2.ca at 7:30 PM ET.
