Toronto FC II (1-3-2) were defeated 2-0 by Eastern Conference leaders Louisville City FC (5-1-2) on a chilly Wednesday evening at the Ontario Soccer Centre.
Both goals for the visitors came off mistakes by the Young Reds.
TFC II received some reinforcements for the match as Quillan Roberts, Daniel Lovitz, Eriq Zavaleta, Nick Hagglund, Jay Chapman, Chris Mannella, and Mo Babouli were all in the starting lineup after being loaned down from Toronto FC earlier in the week.
The visitors opened up the scoring five minutes into the match.
Defender Conor Shanosky jumped on the loose ball from a corner kick and knocked a soft header towards TFC II’s goal. Martin Davis, covering the left post, miskicked the clearance attempt and consequently knocked it into his own goal.
Davis came close to redeeming himself in the 13th minute but his left-footed shot went wide of the target.
In the 35th minute Toronto FC loanee Mo Babouli came close to equalizing from a free kick but his curling effort was met by an incredible diving grab by Louisville goalkeeper Greg Ranjitsingh.
Louisville made it two-nil in the 65th minute.
Goalkeeper Quillan Roberts came out of his box to clear a loose ball but his poor attempt led to Niall McCabe scoring into an open goal from 30 yards to put the visitors up 2-0.
TFC II had a good opportunity to cut the lead in the 79th minute, again from a free kick position, but substitute Brian James’ shot was hit just over the bar.
The Young Reds are now winless in their last three matches after beginning the season with a win and two draws.
TFC II are back at the Ontario Soccer Centre on Wednesday, May 11, to take on the Richmond Kickers at 11:30AM ET.
